Granny
A young grandson asks,
"Oh granny, what were you when you were new?"'
The grey and wrinkled stately lady smiles,
The secretes of her many years
Hid softly in that smile.
"Was I ever new?"
Oh, yes just yesterday.
Long before you little man, or your father."
I dreamed, loved, planned,
I laughed, I cried.
Did all the things you do."
"Oh, Granny, what did you want to
Be when you were new?"
The secret smile comes once again.
"To be a granny just for you."
"Oh granny, what were you when you were new?"'
The grey and wrinkled stately lady smiles,
The secretes of her many years
Hid softly in that smile.
"Was I ever new?"
Oh, yes just yesterday.
Long before you little man, or your father."
I dreamed, loved, planned,
I laughed, I cried.
Did all the things you do."
"Oh, Granny, what did you want to
Be when you were new?"
The secret smile comes once again.
"To be a granny just for you."
